Sending Connections @ ULC

Fall 2025 Sending Opportunities

Sending is a term we use when go beyond the walls of ULC, sending God’s people to serve the city and the world as we join Jesus on his mission.

Sending Connections presents specific sending opportunities to the ULC family.  These opportunities include the regular support we offer to ULC’s four Kingdom Partners and any other Sending opportunities planned for the year.

Angell Elementary

Angell Recess // Weekly Tuesdays and Fridays

ULC is honoring Jesus’ call to serve our neighbor by partnering with Angell Elementary (the school right behind ULC). We hope to send some kid loving residents and college students over as volunteers to play with the kids at recess and help with lunch distribution. If you have the special skill of opening up milk this job is for you!! We currently are covering Tuesday and Fridays from 11:30 to 12:30. Even one our per month would be a blessing to the staff and teachers there!

As part of cultivating a culture of life at ULC and in our community, we want to support the important work of Family Life Services as they work with women and families in crisis pregnancy situations.

GLOCAL 2025

GLOCAL 2025 // November 30-December 24 // GLOCAL Idea Submission Forms Due November 2

Each Advent season, ULC works together to bless our world both globally and locally, intentionally working with specific ministries to help achieve a goal. We call this project “GLOCAL.” Some examples of highlights from GLOCAL 2024 include:

  • Funding the training of 28 new counselors providing trauma healing in war torn regions of the Congo, donating $5,612 to Congo Can Heal.
  • Coming alongside families enduring the loss of a child during pregnancy or infancy, covering the costs of 73 memory boxes for a total of $1,831 to Metro Detroit Share.

Do you have an organization you’re passionate about that you think would be a fit for ULC’s GLOCAL 2025? Submit your idea and tell us more!  Submissions are due on November 2, 2025.

Hope Clinic

Meal Prep // October 29 & November 19

The ULC Staff will serve their Kingdom Partner Hope Clinic by prepping meals for their daily dinners. Your ULC staff is trying out their culinary skills prepping casseroles 1 time per month. We would love to have ULC community members come and join us!

ULCereal Drive // October 26-November 9

As Hope Clinic’s “Cereal Church,” it’s our job to keep their cereal shelf stocked, so we do a ULCereal Drive about three times a year and supplement their shelf in times of low inventory. All you have to do is add cereal to your shopping list when we say, “GO!” Prefer shopping online? We’ll make an Amazon link available during the ULCereal Drive. Generally we collect hundreds of boxes, and we could use some help dropping cereal off to Hope Clinic every few days throughout each drive.

House N2 Home

House N2 Home // Ongoing

House N2 Home is one of ULC’s Kingdom Partners. They serve individuals and families transitioning from homelessness in Washtenaw County. They are a group of volunteers who help provide furnishings for people. There are multiple ways to help HN2H. You can sign up to volunteer with them directly to help with various tasks around House N2 Home’s facility or assist them with move ins. In their facility, each room is dedicated to different household necessities (bed sheets, children’s toys, art, rugs, etc.). The various tasks you would be helping with could include, putting newly donated items in their specific place, framing artwork, vacuuming rugs, etc. ULC also does various drives for them throughout the year of specific items. In May at the close of the semester ULC also hosts a drop off zone for items as students move out of their dorms. Not only does this provide needed items to HN2H it also reduces the amount of garbage thrown away as students move off campus.

Love Ypsi

Community Meal // October 13, November 10, December 8, January 12

Our new Kingdom Partner, Love Ypsi, is seeking to provide a community meal for those that live in a poverty stricken area of Ypsilanti near Faith Lutheran Church. ULC is supporting them by committing to provide a meal for this community one Monday per month. We are asking our volunteers to follow the model we have put together for Family of God where we need shoppers, meal preparers and a group to go to Faith Lutheran Church and serve the meal. Even if you can only help us one time per year we would greatly appreciate it!

Diaper Drive // September 21-October 4

Want to help make sure that babies in Ypsilanti have clean diapers to wear each day? Join us in supporting our new Kingdom Partner, Love Ypsi! Their Diaper Pantry is a joint ministry of Cross & Resurrection and Faith Lutheran Churches. Their mission is to help their neighbors who are residents of Ypsilanti with approximately a week’s supply of diapers or pull-ups, wipes and diaper cream per child. Diapers are a basic need for infants, babies, and toddlers. They are just as essential to their health and wellbeing as food and shelter. Nearly 1 in 2 families struggle to afford diapers to keep their babies clean, dry, and healthy and are forced to choose between paying for food or buying diapers. Starting September 21 bring in unopened packages or sleeves of diapers to the donation station.

Prison Ministry

Prison Ministry Meetings // October 23 & November 20

Prison ministry is an opportunity to connect with and recognize people in prison who need love and care just like our other brothers and sisters who are not in prison. Come to our meetings to get set up with a pen pal and learn best practices for this meaningful ministry that is also very flexible to your schedule.

Rotating Shelter

Rotating Shelter // March 9-16, 2026 // Informational Meeting November 23, 2025

From March 9-16, 2026, ULC will be hosting the annual week-long Rotating Shelter, providing a comfortable space for men experiencing homelessness during the cold months. This is always a church-wide effort, and we are so thankful for the many volunteers who are willing to serve our guests! Learn more about this opportunity and get plugged in to help with set up, clean up, dinners, overnight host, and more!

Tanzania Mission Trip

Tanzania Mission Trip // March 1-8, 2026 // Informational Meeting October 5, 2025

A couple of years ago ULC began a partnership with our friends at Christ’s Hope International (CHI). CHI is a global organization that works together to provide care and discipleship for orphaned and vulnerable children in 7 African countries. Many people at ULC have sponsored children through CHI, Gabe and Melissa Kasper got to meet the children and care providers in Tanzania and Uganda, and now we’d like to send a team from ULC to connect and serve alongside our ministry partners in Tanzania. The dates for the trip coincide with UM’s Spring Break, March 1-8, 2026. If you have any interest in joining us for this trip please plan on attending an information session after any of our gatherings on October 5, 2025.
